WHEN THE
GRID GOES QUIET.

Meshtastic® can be useful when conventional connectivity is limited, but it is not a substitute for emergency services, a guaranteed communications system, or a personal safety plan.

01

PLAN

Tell someone where you are going, when you expect to return, and what your fallback communications plan is.

02

POWER

Carry a charged radio, spare power where practical, and understand how your device behaves when battery levels fall.

03

CHECK IN

Agree on simple check-in language before leaving. Keep messages short and avoid flooding a shared channel.

04

FIELD LIMITS

Mountains create dead zones. Weather, terrain, vegetation, antenna orientation, and node availability can change results quickly.

05

GRID-DOWN

Know what still works if cellular service, internet, or local power disappears. A mesh cannot forward messages through nodes that are no longer powered.

06

EMERGENCY

If you have a life-threatening emergency, use the appropriate emergency service available to you. Never rely on this website or a Meshtastic® network as your sole emergency plan.

BACKCOUNTRY RULERADIO IS A TOOL. TERRAIN IS REAL.

Test your actual route and conditions. A map marker or theoretical range estimate never guarantees that a message will get through.
