Bring a useful baseline

Write down the device model, firmware version, region, modem preset and frequency slot. Describe what worked, what failed and whether you tested both directions with a nearby node. Keep keys and exact home locations private.

Phone cannot connect

Confirm the installed firmware supports your chosen Bluetooth or USB app. Check power, USB data cable and permissions; close other apps using the device. Record the firmware version before changing it.

Short or unreliable range

Check the band-matched antenna and connector with power off. Move both endpoints outdoors and raise them safely. Test both directions, log packet counts, and compare terrain. A map marker or discovery packet is not proof of a working message path.

Battery drains quickly

Measure current at the battery terminals over a representative duty cycle. Compare display, GPS, Wi-Fi and transmit activity. Enter that measured average in the existing builder; do not substitute a specification measured at a different voltage.

Location or keys were shared

Review position and MQTT settings in the official client. Treat configuration exports as sensitive. For a BackCountrySignal listing or report, request correction or removal with its receipt ID. Never put home coordinates or channel keys in public report text.
