A good starting point
for your antenna.

Convert frequency into a quarter-wave or half-wave wire length. Tune the finished antenna in its actual mounting arrangement.

The 95% default is an illustrative starting assumption for wire elements, not a specification for your materials. A region’s center frequency is a planning input; match your actual operating frequency.

Calculated starting dimensions

What the numbers mean

A quarter-wave value is the starting length of one radiating element for a monopole with a suitable ground plane. A half-wave value is the total tip-to-tip length of a dipole; each arm starts at the quarter-wave length. This calculator does not model impedance, gain, feedline loss, connector dimensions or a loading coil.

Start slightly longer, then trim while measuring with suitable antenna test equipment. The enclosure, wire diameter, ground plane and nearby objects change the resonant length. A calculated length alone does not establish a good match or a working radio path.

Next steps

Formula: λ = c / f, using c = 299,792,458 metres per second. Applying a shortening factor is a simplified engineering assumption; verify it by measurement.
