Do I need cellular service?
Direct radio messaging works without cellular service or internet when compatible radios are within reach, directly or through relays. This website and online dashboards still need internet.
Why can I see a node on a map but not message it?
A map may show a past or internet-fed observation. It does not establish a usable radio path from your location. Check the timestamp and test over radio.
Which settings should I use?
Use current official guidance and confirm Graham County settings with local operators. Another city's channel or modem preset may not match this network.
Are all channels private?
Do not assume a public community channel is confidential. Check the official security guidance before sharing sensitive information.
Can I help without installing infrastructure?
Yes. Test your handheld, submit useful coverage observations, document a build, or help another newcomer.
What should I report?
Record the general area, date, device and firmware, antenna, terrain, and whether a message was received or failed. A failed test is useful evidence too.
