07 / CONFIGURATION DESK
Configuration is part of network design. Use a role that matches what the radio is actually doing, and verify local recommendations before changing infrastructure.
Prioritize battery life, usable position sharing, sensible telemetry, and a channel configuration agreed by the local community.
Balance position updates, power, antenna performance, and movement. A vehicle node is not automatically a router.
Fixed nodes need reliable power, an appropriate antenna system, weather protection, and a known physical location.
Router and repeater decisions should be coordinated with the network. Do not blindly copy settings from another region.
Region, modem preset, channel, antenna, height, terrain, and legal limits all matter. Software settings cannot defeat a blocked mountain.
After a change, document what changed and field-test it. Repeatable observations are more valuable than assumptions.
