HARDWARE / BUYING GUIDE

Power the node. Protect the build.

Choose supporting parts that match the node, enclosure, and charging system.

Bench tests and everyday charging

USB power and cables

Use the board’s documented input requirements and a suitable supply. Keep a data-capable cable for flashing and recovery.

Consider before buying

Some power banks shut off when a small node draws too little current. Confirm behavior before field use.

Portable or solar operation

A matched battery system

Check battery chemistry, polarity, connector, protection, charger compatibility, and temperature limits together.

Consider before buying

Do not choose a loose cell by capacity alone or assume similarly shaped battery connectors share polarity.

Serviceable outdoor installations

Enclosure pass-throughs

Use appropriately rated bulkheads, seals, glands, and strain relief to bring power and antenna connections through the enclosure.

Consider before buying

A waterproof component does not automatically make the completed enclosure waterproof.

Wired host sites

Power over Ethernet

PoE can be a useful option when compatible powered equipment and Ethernet already serve the site.

Consider before buying

Match the supply, splitter, and output voltage to the device; Ethernet availability alone does not mean the node accepts PoE.

Complete the installation

  • Leave access for battery replacement, firmware work, and connector inspection.
  • Document supply voltage, battery details, charging hardware, and polarity.
  • Measure average draw and test reserve instead of relying on a capacity label.
